Hi there!

My name is Marissa Catalano and I am going into my 5th year of teaching special education with a co-taught model! This will be my 4th year at Royalview--I am so thankful to be here, working with awesome educators and administrators. I love our daily R.O.C.K.S focus, which is part of our positive behavior support plan. R.O.C.K.S stands for: Respect, Ownership, Cooperation, Kindness and Self-Control. This is something that you can remind your child of as they head to school each day. This is also something they are reminded of through our daily morning announcements!

A little background on my education-I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2016 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in both Early Childhood Education and Special Education. While in college, I worked as a paraprofessional with 9th-12th graders. I loved this position and gained such wonderful experience in this role. Then, in December 2019, I graduated with my Master's of Education in Reading through Bowling Green State University. I also have my K-12 Reading Endorsement!

The purpose of this site is to keep you in the loop with any changes/updates that occur within our classroom and school! I have also included some educational insight as well as my own presentations/documents on various topics. I hope you find it useful. My school email and school phone number are listed below if you ever have any questions or concerns! Please do not hesitate to contact me!

As an educator, I feel it is important to share my teaching philosophy with all of you! My teaching philosophy gives me purpose as I enter the classroom each day. It is also my reasoning behind wanting to become a teacher--a childhood dream of mine! First and foremost, I believe that all students can learn and that all students bring something unique to the classroom. Every single student that I have worked with over the years have all had their very own strengths and weaknesses. I love guiding students to build upon their weaknesses while enhancing their strengths. I also believe that when students are given proper support and guidance, the possibilities are endless. This is part of my role as a teacher and the reasons why I hold my students to high standards. As my co-teachers and I create and present each lesson, we are sure to keep a few things in mind: the various learning styles within our classroom setting, making the content relevant to students' lives, ensuring that learning is fun and hands-on, incorporating cooperative learning, working on challenging projects, implementing culturally diverse ideas and focusing on individual student work that engages and activates student learning. All of which take place in a safe environment where respect and kindness are held to high standards!

Outside of school I love keeping myself busy and learning new things! I have a five year old pup named Bart. He is a yorkie-pomeranian and loves going on walks. Being that he is only 10lbs, I try to take him with me wherever I go! Aside from taking care of my pup, I love working out, being outdoors, getting crafty, shopping (Target is my favorite!), babysitting and being around my family and friends! I can't wait to learn more about you and your child throughout the school year!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
